Tim Long has over twenty-five years of story development and screenwriting experience, during which he sold, optioned, and pitched film projects at the studio level. He has had projects at Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., and Universal Pictures.
Mr. Long has had original screenplays of his in development with Academy Award® winning producer Jeremy Kleiner (12 Years a Slave), as well as Academy Award® nominated producer Andrew Lazar (American Sniper).
In addition to writing the original screenplay for the feature film (Slaughter), released theatrically by Lionsgate, Mr. Long’s other screenwriting credits include the feature film (Shanghai 1920), which was shot on location in China, as well as the original screenplay for the feature film (Undeclared War). Mr. Long is a nationally recognized story consultant, named among the top six screenplay consultants in the country by Creative Screenwriting Magazine.
He has done story consulting for numerous projects and companies. A few of his writing clients include Academy Award® winner Richard Portman (The Deer Hunter), and screenwriter Tom Matthews (Mad City).
As a Professor at Florida State University’s College of Motion Picture Arts, Mr. Long taught (from idea conception to picture lock) the story development, screenwriting, and post-production editing of more than five-hundred films, among which were nineteen national Student Academy Award® and Student Emmy Award® winners, as well as two other films that qualified for actual Oscar® consideration in the best short film category.
Mr. Long was instrumental in the curriculum development and launching of the College’s MFA Screenwriting Program, where he served as Head of MFA Screenwriting.
Former FSU film students have gone on to sell screenplays and direct feature films such as; Moonlight (2017 Academy Award® Winner), The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, It Follows (Cannes Critics Week Grand Prize Nomination), 11:14, Little Black Book, El Gringo, The Myth Of The American Sleep Over, Echelon Conspiracy, Sophie’s Revenge, and Deliverance Creek.
Others have gone on to successful careers in television, writing for such shows as; Jane by Design, Life As We Know It, Arrow, Mistresses, The Originals, Yes Dear, Desperate Housewives, Smallville, and Hollywood Girl.
