What it is
Parable is an online interactive screenwriting course taught by a veteran Hollywood screenwriter who has worked with Academy Award® winners. It guides you from story idea to finished screenplay and includes a free screenplay consultation of your completed first draft.
This inspiring process is a hands-on mentoring approach that comes with unlimited live chat. It is also a proven process for rewriting your existing script, beginning with a free one-hour story consultation via Skype.
How it came about
This innovative process is the culmination of over twenty-five years of story development and screenwriting experience. Parable’s founder, Jeremy Alan Long, sold, optioned, and pitched film projects at the studio level, and collaborated on his screenplays with Academy Award®-winning and nominated producers.
Mr. Long taught screenwriting at the MFA level in a graduate film school ranked among the top university film programs in the world. He also taught screenwriting and filmmaking at Florida State University’s College of Motion Picture Arts for nearly two decades, where he was Head of the MFA Screenwriting Program.
He also spent years as a professional story consultant, recognized as one of the top screenplay consultants in the country, and worked with everyone from beginners to an Academy Award® winner.
Former FSU film students have gone on to sell screenplays and direct feature films including Moonlight (2017 Academy Award® winner), The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, It Follows (Cannes Critics Week Grand Prize nomination), 11:14, Little Black Book, El Gringo, The Myth of the American Sleepover, Echelon Conspiracy, Sophie’s Revenge, and Deliverance Creek.
Others have gone on to successful television careers, writing for shows including Jane by Design, Life As We Know It, Arrow, Mistresses, The Originals, Yes Dear, Desperate Housewives, Smallville, and Hollywood Girl.
Why it’s unique
Great stories are about eliciting emotions. Parable focuses on the psychology of storytelling: it defines the key emotional building blocks of story and their effects on an audience. It shows how these elements function narratively in successful films, and how they emotionally move an audience and inspire people to invest in your story.
The instructor
Jeremy Alan Long
Screenwriter
Jeremy Alan Long has had projects at Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., and Universal Pictures. He has had original screenplays in development with Academy Award®-winning producer Jeremy Kleiner (12 Years a Slave), as well as Academy Award®-nominated producer Andrew Lazar (American Sniper).
In addition to writing the original screenplay for the feature film Slaughter, released theatrically by Lionsgate, Mr. Long’s screenwriting credits include Shanghai 1920, shot on location in China, and the original screenplay for Undeclared War.
Screenwriting professor
